Abstract

542,997. Drawing-apparatus for spinning &c. frames. LOUIE, B. L. July 1, 1940, No. 11121. [Class 120 (ii)] In drawing-apparatus in which the sliver or roving is drafted between a pair of endless bands arranged around the middle pairs of rollers with a pair of tensors slidably mounted within slots or recesses formed in the cap bars, the upper tensors being under a resilient pressure from the weighting saddle so as to be capable of movement towards and away from the lower tensors within the slots or recesses to cause a yielding pressure to be exerted on the sliver or roving, the lower tensors is fitted with a roller around which passes the lower one of the pair of endless bands. As shown the lower tensor 14 has reduced ends 19 engaging the slots 12 and is formed with a pair of U-shaped bracket portions 15 in each of which a roller 16 is rotatably mounted and around which the lower endless band 26 passes; the roller is removably held in the bracket portion 15 by its journals, one engaging a hole 17 in one side of the bracket and the other an open-ended slot 17a in the other side of the bracket. The upper tensor 13 is resiliently pressed towards the lower tensor 14 by a spring 44 arranged between the saddle 29 engaging a pin 21 projecting from the tensor 13 which has reduced ends 20 engaging the slots 12 and slots for guiding the band 25 with prongs 24 extending outwards and downwards for laterally guiding both belts; the upper tensor has a flat underside engaging the lower tensor and the surfaces of the rollers 16 are arranged below the upper surface of the lower tensor to allow passage of the belt 26. The front saddle 29 engages the rear saddle 27 and is connected by;a rod 31 to a lever 38 pivoted on a pin 39 between a pair of plates 32 fixed to a bar 34 and having its end 40 engaging : one member 36 of a telescoping spring device, the other member of which engages a porjecfion 35 on one of the plates 32; a pin 43 in one of the plates 32 engages a slot 42 in the lever 38 to limit its movement. By lifting the saddle 29 the lever 38 is turned until the end 40 passes below the line x-x and the saddle mechanism is then held in the raised position. In a modification the prongs 24 are forked and the arms of the fork project rearwards and downwards to engage the journals of the bottom middle roller 3 while in a further form the forks of the prongs both project downwards and fit over the journals of the bottom middle roller the prong being adjustably connected to the upper tensor by a pin and slot so that it adjusts itself when the cap bars are moved to maintain the 'tension of the bands. Specification 505,457 is referred to.
