Abstract
542,851. Heat treating nickel alloy. HAYNES STELLITE CO. Oct. 31, 1940, No. 15921. Convention date. Jan. 16. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] The resistance to corrosion during or after exposure, as in welding to temperatures between 300‹C. to 700‹C. of nickel-molybdenum alloys, which may have been annealed, are improved by heating them for upwards of 2 hours but not exceeding 72 hours within the range 900‹C.- 1175‹C., preferably for between 2 and 24 hours at 1020-1065‹C. The alloys may be cooled in air and may contain up to 20 per cent. of chromium and tungsten up to 7 per cent. and iron up to 25 per cent., 0.1-3.0 of manganese, vanadium, zirconium, tantalum, niobium and titanium, 0.1-0.5 of silicon and 0.01-0.25 of carbon may also be present. When articles are fabricated from the alloys, the various parts of the article may be heat treated before they are welded together to form the article or the fabricated article may be heat treated as a whole.
