Abstract

542,797. Armouring vehicles. HONEYBALL, L. L. K. April 15, 1940, No. 4845. [Class 92 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIII] Protective armour or shields particularly for use on aircraft comprise one or more discs, cylinders, cones or similar surfaces of elastic material, e.g. rubber, rubber and canvas, or like material, which are rotated at a high speed. Such a surface or surfaces may form the cowling of an aircraft engine, or protect the sides and tail of the aircraft, and where several surfaces are employed, these may be rotated in the same or in different directions. If desired, the surfaces may be fitted with wind vanes to provide the necessary rotational effort. According to the Provisional Specification the surfaces may form body shields, or be mounted on a rifle, and may open automatically under centrifugal action. Specifications 558/08, [Class 92], 6378/15, 10169/15 and 113,793, [all in Class 92 (i)], are referred to.
