Abstract

541,728. Testing aircraft undercarriages. SOC D'INVENTIONS AERONAUTIQUES ET MECANIQUES S. I. A. M. June 6, 1940, No. 9931. Convention date, July 6, 1939. [Class 4] For testing parts of undercarriages, particularly the shock-absorber, the part is mounted on a beam which is accelerated to the required velocity at which impact with the ground is supposed to take place. As shown the beam consists of a paralelogram 4, 5, 6, 7 of which the sides 4, 5 are pivoted on transverse shafts 2, 3. Masses M 1 and M 2 are mounted on the side 6 and, through a bracket 8, upon the side 7 to simulate the inertia of the aircraft, the shock-absorber leg 9 also being mounted on the bracket 8. Elastic cables 14, 15 accelerate the beam to the required velocity when a detent 20 is displaced, the acceleration ceasing before the landing wheel hits a plate 21 connected to dynamometric apparatus. The plate 21 may be laterally tiltable to simulate skid landings, or it may be replaced by an irregular-surfaced movable belt. By varying the relative weights of the masses M 1 , M 2 the beam may be given an additional acceleration or a retardation after the elastic cables have ceased to act upon the beam. Fluid pressure or explosive devices may be used instead of the elastic cables 14, 15.
