Abstract

541,142. Road and flooring scavengering. DIXON & CO., Ltd., R. G., and BRIDGE, W. J. May 7, 1940, No. 8207. [Class 107] A suction squeegee for removing surface water from floors, &c. comprises a framework a, mounted on wheels b, c, carrying a tank e and suction pump f driven by a motor g delivering into the tank, the framework being arranged behind a nozzle o-p-r extending transversely thereof adapted to contact with the floor and communicating with the suction pump. A handle d enables the apparatus to be drawn over the floor so that the nozzle follows the wheels. The tank is provided with a water inlet pipe h<SP>1</SP> and an air escape pipe b arranged at diagonal corners of the tank and also with overlapping longitudinally arranged baffles k, l, so that the water takes a sinuous path therein. A water outlet pipe n enables the tank to be emptied when the pipe h is closed by hand or other means. The nozzle comprises a sheet of rubber &c. r clamped between a pair of plates o, p, one of which is provided with a series of channels delivering into a common outlet connected by a hose s with the suction side of the pump. An additional sheet of rubber &c. t may be fitted on the nozzle unit. One or more of the wheels may be castor wheels. An auxiliary tank may be provided from which clean water may be applied to the floor &c. adjacent the nozzle for the purpose of 'finally cleansing the surface.
