[Class 78 (i)] An apparatus for stacking and reclaiming materials comprises a low-level gantry 1 which can be propelled along a track 2 and carries a belt conveyer 3 arranged to deliver material anywhere along its length by means of a tripper to a stacker running along the gantry and including a jib carrying a conveyer 9 for elevating material from the belt 3 to a higher stacking level at one or other side of the gantry. The material is fed to the belt 3 from a supply conveyer 4 by tripper gear (not shown). Two stacker conveyers 9 may be arranged as shown in Fig. 4, or one such conveyer may be swivelled on a turntable 15 from the full-line position to the dotted-line position, to deposit on either side of the gantry. The gantry may be propelled synchronously at both ends, for example, by cables anchored at their ends and wound round pulleys driven from a motor. on the gantry, or by synchronized motors driving through reduction gears at each end. For reclaiming the material, the tripper and stacker conveyer 9 is run to the delivery end of the gantry and turned to discharge into wagons 30 on rails 31, while a loader 32, such as that described in Specification 526,810, is arranged to collect the material and discharge it on the gantry belt 3 for delivery to the conveyer 9. The loader is slidably connected to the gantry and pulled across by ropes 33.
