Abstract

540,217. Lamp caps and holders. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIKEN. April 3, 1940, No. 6040. Convention date, April 6, 1939. [Class 38 (i)] A tubular discharge lamp has caps 2 each with a lateral projection 6 in which is a slot 7 to house and protect the contacts 8, 9 from which lead-in wires 10, 11 convey current to the electrodes, the co-operating contacts 22, 23 of the holder being mounted on an insulating tongue 21 and connected to terminals 24, 25. The cover 20 of the holder carries U-shaped metal strips 26, 27 that co-operate with recesses 14, 15 in the projection 6 to retain the lamp in the holder and which also engage contacts in the recesses which are connected together to bridge the contacts 26, 27 and close an auxiliary starting circuit. The circuit connections are shown in Fig. 5, a choke 32 and condenser 33 in the auxiliary circuit being such as to produce resonance and increase the voltage applied to the main contacts 22, 23 at opposite ends of the lamp. The heating current for the electrodes is supplied from secondary windings 37 associated with the choke 32. Sliding buttons 30, 31 move abutments 28, 29 into position behind the free ends of the contacts 26, 27 to lock them against withdrawal of the lamp.
