Abstract
540,180. Conveyers. NEW CONVEYOR CO., Ltd., and SMITH, J. V. April 8, 1940, No. 6326. [Class, 78, (i)] A tiltable tray suspended from an overhead or other conveyer is provided with a locking member adapted to hold the tray against tilting movement and an operating lever connected to the locking member and having a lost-motion connection with the tray, so that movement of the operating lever first releases and then tilts the tray. As shown, the tray b is provided with lugs b<SP>1</SP> carrying a spindle d rotatably supported in plates c on a tubular or other bracket a attached at its upper end to a conveyer (not shown). Each plate c has an upper horizontal edge c<SP>1</SP>, on which the tray normally rests, and an inclined edge c<SP>2</SP> on which the tray rests when tilted. To one end of the spindle are secured integral or interconnected levers e, f, g. The operating lever e is connected by a Bowden cable h or other means to manual or automatic actuating means ; the tilting lever f has a lost-motion connection i, j with a lug k on the tray and serves to tilt the tray ; and the locking lever g is connected by a link m to a lever n pivoted at o on one of the plates c and provided with a roller p engaging under a lug q on the tray to prevent tilting. A spring r connects the lever n to the bracket a and takes up the lost motion at i, j. Actuation of the lever e first releases the roller p from the lug q, this being permitted by the lost motion i, j, and then tilts the tray by means of the lever f. In a modification, Fig. 3, the tray b is connected to the supporting plates c on the bracket aby coaxial short spindles d, and a collar x on one of the spindles d has a notch engaged by a spring catch z in a housing 3 on the side of the tray. The operating lever e first disengages the catch by means of a peg 4 passing through a hole 5 in the housing, and then tilts the tray. by the engagement of the peg with the edge of the hole 5. In a further modification, Fig. 5, the operating lever e, freely mounted on one of the spindles d, is connected at one end to the Bowden cable h and at the other by a link m to a locking lever n having a roller p engaging under a lug q on the tray. A boss 6 on the lever e is formed with a notched outer end effecting a lost-motion connection with a complementary notched boss 7 on a lug depending from the tray b, the lost motion being taken up by a spring r surrounding the Bowden cable. Movement of the lever e first disengages the roller p from the lug q and then tilts the tray through the bosses 6, 7.
