Abstract

539,621. Coating non-metallic surfaces with metals. KODAK, Ltd., and MARRIAGE, A. Feb. 16, 1940, No. 2975. [Class 82 (ii)] In coating surfaces of cellulose ester materials with metals such as silver, gold, platinum, or copper by deposition from reducible solutions, the surface is first prepared by treatment in a bath containing a stannous compound dissolved in a mixture of ethyl alcohol and water having a water-content of 5-80 per cent. The surface so treated may then be treated in a silvering solution comprising, for example, silver nitrate and Rochelle salt. The Provisional Specification refers also to the coating of other organic materials such as synthetic resins, celluloid &c. to other reducing constituents of the pre-treatment bath such as hydrazine, and to other solvents such as acetone and pyridene.
