Abstract

538,257. R÷ntgen ray tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 27, 1940, No. 9277. Convention date, May 26, 1939. [Class 39 (i)] A getter is housed in a pocket 31 in an X-ray tube so that when flashed the products will remain in the pocket and not spread on the electrodes. The getter is contained in a receptacle 41, Fig. 2, with perforations 47 and a plate 49 for attachment to a support 39 fixed to a skirt 25 on the cathode. In a modification the material is contained in a hollow wire 61, Figs. 7 and 9, with a weakened side 63 which collapses to allow the material to enter the envelope space ; the wire may form a flat coil. The getter may be of barium and/or aluminium and it may be flashed electrically.
