538,240. Preventing corrosion. ARMSTRONG, J. J. V. (Linde Air Products Co.). March 12, 1940, No. 4623. [Class 123 (i)]. [Also in Group XXII] In a brazed plug and socket joint between a bar or tube C of circular, oval or polygonal section and a hollow piece F of similar shape in the form of a collar, L.T.H.Y. or cross, the parts C, F are respectively machined to form similar external and internal conical surfaces and are forced together so that they are held frictionally on each other, a brazing material is applied to exposed facts adjacent the joint and melted so that it creeps by capillary attraction into the joint. The parts may be transported or shipped in the tapered state to the assembly point and in order to keep the tapered surfaces free from corrosion, grease or dirt, they are coated with paint, varnish, lacquer, copper sulphate, paraffin, or with a copper or other non-ferrous metal by plating, dip-brazing or spraying, these coatings being removed prior to brazing.
