Abstract

538,203. Coating surfaces. LUMB, C. F. Jan. 26, 1940, No. 1635. [Class 95] A homogeneous coating of artificial or synthetic resin is formed on a surface by spraying the resin on to the surface in a finely divided or powdered state by means of a pistol or spraying apparatus in which air or gas under pressure is used to direct the material in a stream through or adjacent to a flame of a temperature sufficient to melt the resin or render it plastic and adherent to the surface in the form of a coherent film, without the need for any subsequent baking operation. Specified resins are those of the phenol-formaldehyde, urea-formaldehyde, and alkyd types, and a plasticizer may be mixed therewith. A temperature of about 140‹C. at the point of contact of the flame with the surface, is mentioned. Specifications 432,831, [Group XXIX], 473,184 and 507,057 are referred to.
