Abstract

538,136. Street lamps; chimneys and lenses. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., DAVIS, P. W., and ALLPRESS, H. S. Jan. 27, 1940, No. 1700. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In a lighting fitting for controlling the distribution of light from an electric or other lamp 13 which is especially applicable under "blackout conditions to give controlled illumination within pre-determined limits; the lamp is enclosed in a substantially opaque enclosure having a relatively narrow light gap which is situated between the surfaces of an upper reflector 8 and a lower subsidiary reflecting surface 12, which is preferably radial to the source of light. The lamp is enclosed in a substantially opaque screen 19 in the form of an inverted frusto-conical member formed with perforations the axes of which may be parallel to the light rays or inclined thereto. A glass cover 21 which may be transparent or translucent if a plain bulb is used for the lamp 13, is clamped between washers 22, 23 on the reflector 22 and the opaque retaining cup 10 which supports the subsidiary reflector 12. The screen 19 is held in position by a clamping ring 20 adjustable relatively to the ring 14 by screws 27, and screws 16 and spacing tubes 17 secure the cup 10 and ring 14 together. The parts 10, 12, 21, 19, 20 are detachable as a whole and are held to the reflector 8 and its integral sheet metal body 5 by means of hooked bolts 25 adjustable by screws 26.
