Abstract

537,686. Shock-absorbers. CLEVELAND, F. J. (Bendix Aviation Corporation). Dec. 23, 1939, No. 32845. Addition to 456,897. [Class 108 (iii)] In the shock absorbing strut described in the parent Specification arranged with a substantial passageway through the piston orifice when the strut is in its fully extended condition, the pin has a headed portion with parallel side walls adapted to restrict the orifice severely during a substantial part of the beginning of the compression stroke of the strut. The fully extended position is determined by rings 28, 30 having screwthread engagement with the inner and outer cylinders. Air trapped in the liquid can rise freely to join the compressed air in the upper cylinder. The upper part of the pin, above its parallel portion 40 may be tapered, or slotted, or formed with an inclined flat 350 or communicating bores 460,462 ; or a separate non-return valve may be provided.
