Abstract

537,224. Acetylene generators. HART, E. H. L., and HART, H. R. Nov. 29, 1939, No. 31060. [Class 2 (i)] A portable acetylene generator of the type in which there is an upper container of water, a lower container for carbide, means for detachably fixing the upper to the lower container and a valve controlled water outlet in the bottom of the water container, is characterized by having an imperforate guard in the form of a funnel-shaped hollow member surrounding the water outlet, which member has a lower cylindrical portion adapted to enter a perforated tube attached to the bottom of the carbide container. If desired the wall of the cylindrical lower portion of the funnel-shaped member may be perforated. In Fig. 2 the perforated tube 17 attached to the bottom 2 of the carbide container has projecting into it the lower cylindrical portion 36 of the funnel-shaped member 34, surrounding the water outlet 27. The purpose of the invention is to prevent the spent carbide from choking the water outlet. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 186,421, [Class 75 (iii)].
