Abstract

536,918. Soldering irons. YOUNG, G. R. Feb. 13, 1940, No. 2774. Convention date, Feb. 13, 1939. [Class 39 (iii)] The bit 1 of an electrically heated soldering iron is formed with a space 2 to receive a heating element 6 which is threaded over a copper stud 7 projecting from the inner end of the space 2. The wall of the space 2 tapers towards the handle so that heat travels more readily towards the point of the bit. The handle 9 is connected to the bit by a tube 10 threaded at 11 and having transverse slots 12 to admit air and obstruct the flow of heat back towards the handle. A terminal box 14 receives the supply leads and earthing wire and also the connections from the heating element.
