Abstract

536,127. Window shutters. SHIRERS & LANCES, Ltd., RAINBIRD, G. M., and HINCHCLIFFE, E. D. May 11, 1939, Nos. 14109, 17706, 27143,27144, and 29141. [Class 20 (iii)] Comprises inter - connected pintle shuttering operated simultaneously by common means assembled as a unitary structure which may be secured to the existing glazing bars or to roof purlins. The horizontal purlins a support glazing bars b on which the glazing c is mounted. The shutters d are formed of corrugated sheet metal panels pivoted on angle rails e secured to the bars b by clips f. Each shutter is provided at the ends with a rightangled bracket g and the apices are connected by links i. The shutter next the actuating means is braced and connected to the actuating means by a toggle or link j to which is pivoted a nut n. The nuts n for shutters on opposite sides of the actuating means are threaded on a right and left handed screw o<SP>1</SP>, o<SP>2</SP> supported in brackets z on spacers y on a girder w disposed below the actuating gear, the glazing here being replaced by steel sheets v. The screw o, o' is rotated by a chain gear p driven by hand or motor from inside the building. In a modification the angle bars e support transverse braced steelwork structures to carry the screw actuating gear. The first Provisional Specification describes a flexible operating means opening the shutters against the influence of a spring.
