Abstract
535,768. Motor fuels. EVERY, C. E. (Autoxygen, Inc.). Sept. 19, 1939, No. 28141/38. [Class 91] Motor fuel consists of an emulsion of water in hydrocarbon oil containing an amine soap as emulsifying agent. The soap may be mixed initially with the oil, or fatty acid may be dissolved in the oil and the amine in the water. Preferred soaps are those obtained by combining an amine, e.g. methylamine, with the acids of corn, linseed, or cottonseed oils. Suitable proportions are 3 per cent. of soap in an emulsion of 35-42 per cent. of water with 65-58 per cent. of petrol, or 15-20 per cent. of water with 85-80 per cent. of Diesel fuel. Preferably the water is dispersed to a particle size of 0.1-0.25 micron, e.g. in a colloid mill. A concentrate may be prepared to which oil and water may be added as desired, e.g. in the fuel tank. A suitable concentrate is 50lb. of the methylamine soap of the acids of linseed oil with 100lb. of petrol and 100lb. of water; it is added to 1,000lb. of gasolene and then 800lb. of water dispersed therein.
