535,430. Pyrrolidines. HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO. AKT.-GES. F. Nov. 3, 1939, No. 29312. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1938. [Class 2 (iii)] 2:4-Dioxo-3:3-dialkylpyrrolidines, in which the alkyl groups each contain at least two carbon atoms, are prepared by reacting a:adialkyl-y-halogenacetoacetic esters with ammonia in a solvent. The products possess therapeutic properties. Examples describe the preparation of 3:3-diethyl-, 3-n-propyl-3- isobutyl- and 3-n-propyl-3-n-hexyl-2:4-dioxopyrrolidines from the corresponding α:α-disubstituted-γ-bromoacetoacetic esters, and 3:3- di-n-propyl-2:4-dioxo-pyrrolidine from α:α-di-npropyl-γ-chloracetoacetic ester. Of the α:α-dialkyl-γ-halogenacetoacetic esters, the α:α-di-n-propyl compound above is prepared by treating α:α-di-n-propylacetoacetic ester with sulphuryl chloride, and the remaining two esters by reacting α-n-propylacetoacetic ester with isobutyl bromide and n-propyl bromide respectively and brominating with bromine.
