Abstract

535,218. Filling bottles &c. ROBERTS PATENT FILLING MACHINE CO., Ltd., BICKERSTAFFE, A., and EDGE, K. Sept. 28, 1939, No. 26785. [Class 125 (ii)] A nozzle for filling bottles &c. comprises a filling tube 7, Fig. 1, fed with liquid through a pipe 2 and grooved at 8a on the outside to provide a suction channel the entrance to which is opened when a covering tube 10a slides upwards. This is effected when a flared bottle-mouth receiving element 18 is pressed upwards by the bottle, this raising a casing 16 until the bottom thereof engages spacing blocks 17 when tube 10a is moved upwards by its flange 14. A set of neck nozzles may be mounted on the portable filler shown in Fig. 5. The feed tubes 2 are mounted in a ring 30 which rotates with a rotating bottle carrier 44, the tubes being adjustable vertically both individually in their mountmgs 31 or collectively by means of a screw 32. Bottle-carrier 44 is moved vertically by plungers actuated from the pumps 23, 24. Liquid is fed by tubes 2 from tanks'27 fed from a constantlevel reservoir and adjusted vertically by a jack 29. " Interceptor " tanks 36 supply vacuum to the nozzles and interrupt any liquid supplied after the bottles &c. are full. The various connections for vacuum and pressure are made by rotating grooved discs 41, 42. The containers may be automatically fed and removed and the nozzle may be used with gravity feed for the liquid. Specification 535,247 is referred to.
