Abstract

809,592. Bottling. GROWN CORK & SEAL CO. Inc. May 26, 1955, No.39313/56. Divided out of 809,591. Class 125(2). In a container filling machine comprising a rotary table 16 on which are mounted elevatable platforms 15 for the containers above each of which is mounted a filling head 95, each platform includes means to engage the lower part of a container and means to engage the upper part of a container from one side. As applied to the filling of export beer bottles of the form shown, the lower part of the bottle is engaged by a part-cylindrical member 80 secured to the platform 15 by set screws passed through slots in the base of member 80, the slots extending radially of the table 16, while the neck portion of the bottle is engaged in a recess 90 in the outer end of a plate 86 which is mounted at its inner end on a pair of rods 82 extending upwardly from the platform through slots in the plate 86 extending radially of the table, the plate beng secured to these rods by nuts 88. Both member 80 and plate 86 can be adjusted radially of the table 16 by the respective slotted connections, while the rods 82 are located in apertures in the platform 15 by set screws 84, to enable the height of plate 86 to be adjusted. Located opposite the plate 86 to engage the opposite side of the bottle necks is a rail 72 mounted at one end on a column 73, Fig. 1, and formed with a portion 76 bent to a curve concentric with the table 16 and a portion 74 curved away from the table and concentric with a feed wheel 14, the extreme end 75 being bent towards the axis of the feed wheel. Bottles which are fed to the feed wheel 14 in spaced relationship by a conveyer system as described in the original Specification are moved by the feed wheel between the guide rail portion 74 and a guide plate 70 to the platforms 15 which are gradually raised as they pass the feed point to an intermediate position in which the bottle necks are engaged between the rail portion 76 and plate 86 and the mouths of the bottles are about a quarter of an inch below the lower end of nozzle 100 of the associated filling head. Immediately beyond the end of portion 76 of the guide rail 72 the platforms are further raised so that the nozzles 100 enter the bottles and the bottle mouths are pressed against a rubber seal 105, Fig. 3, in the filling head for filling. The nozzle 100 consists of inner and outer sleeves 99, 102 the upper portion of the inner sleeve being of reduced diameter to form a passage 103 which communicates at its lower end with the interior of the bottle via openings 104 in the outer sleeve and at its upper end with a vent passage 101.
