Abstract
534,847. Reciprocating pumps. AIRCRAFT HYDRAULIC APPLIANCES, Ltd., WYLIE, H. N., and GROVES, W. R. July 7, 1939, No. 10807/40, (divided out of 524,384), and 4294/40. [Class 102(i)] [Also in Group XXXIV] In a revolving-cylinder pump, the pistons are provided with rockable slippers for cooperation with a non-rotating track, the rocking movement being such that the slippers can roll without slipping on the pistons. The slippers may act in the manner of Michell bearings. In the case of a radial-cylinder pump, the slippers may be pivotally mounted, and the cylinder assembly acts as a centrifuge impeller for supplying the cylinders. The description in the Specification is identical with part of that in Specification 524,384 and includes also the following subject-matter: The slipper 60, Fig. 6, consists of a segment of a channelled ring and has attached thereto by dowels 65 a bridge 64 which can rock with line-contact on an arcuate surface formed at the bottom of a notch in the piston 6. A retaining-wire 67 passes through a hole in the piston and abuts on lugs 63A on plates 63 secured by the dowels. In another construction, Fig. 8, the piston 81 is formed with an arcuate or sharp-edged part 81B and a lug 81A arranged at the rear of the bridge 80 of the slipper. The bridge rocks on the part 81B and, in one extreme position, a corner of the bridge engages the edge 83 between the parts 81A, 81B. If the retaining-wire 82 breaks, the lug 81A prevents dislodgement of the slipper. The arcuate part 81B may be omitted, in which case a corner of the bridge rocks with line-contact on the edge 83. In the construction shown in Fig. 11, the slipper 100 is free to rock transversely on the curved head 101A of a bridge 101 which can rock on the piston 103 in the above-described manner. The slippers and bridges may be made from a light alloy and steel respectively. Specification 524,199 also is referred to.
