[Class 22] Sodium silicate, calcium chloride, and diatomaceous earth are mixed together with potassium alum and/or aluminium hydroxide and added to a concrete mix to react with the cement and seal porosity. 3¢ to 4 per cent. by weight of the mixture on the amount of cement may be used. Greater crystal size increased strength and improved bonding with old concrete surfaces are also stated to result from the additions, the old surface being swept, washed, acid-treated, and a solution of sodium silicate and calcium chloride applied before the mix is poured.
