534,740. Sound recording and reproducing. FABBRICA ITALlANAMAGNETIMARELLI. Sept. 14, 1939, No. 25861. Convention date, Sept. 16, 1938. [Class 40(ii)] A device for facilitating needle changing and correct positioning of new needles comprises a main support 1, Fig. 2, a member 8 pivoted on the support 1 and a spring member 12 which tends to return the member 8 to the position shown after clockwise displacement. The upper part of 'the spring 12 is shaped as a fixed vane 12<SP>1</SP> having a hole through which a needle 5 when released from the pick-up tends to fall. Clockwise movement of the member 8 brings a hole in its upper surface 8<SP>11</SP> into line with the hole in the vane 12<SP>1</SP> allowing the needle to fall to a suitable receptacle. When the member 8 is returned to the position shown it serves to position correctly a new needle inserted through the upper face of the pick-up. The shape of the pivoted member 8 is such that its face 8<SP>11</SP> moves away from the point of the needle if the latter has not been released and thus no damage is caused to a needle if the pivoted member is accidentally moved when the pick-up is on the rest 1.
