Abstract
534,706. Dolls eyes &c. CASCELLOID, Ltd., and PALLETT, A. E. Oct. 17, 1939, Nos. 28031/39 and 6724/40. [Class 132 (iii)] Comprises an eye element for a doll, animal or like model figure, which consists of a cup-like globular or similar body or shell which is moulded in one piece from a plastic material by an injection moulding process. The eye elements 1 are made in the form of cups from celluloid or like nitro-cellulose product by an injection moulding process. Imitation irises 3 and pupils 3<SP>1</SP> are printed on paper and stuck in position by a suitable cellulose solvent and varnished over. The bridge connecting the eye elements 1 consists of a tube 4 of celluloid, the eye being set in position by a cellulose solvent. The tube 4 also carries the usual weighted arm 5. A wire support 10 with inturned ends sprung into the tube 4 is secured in the head as described in Specification 515,774. Wax eyelids 8 and bristles 9 for eyelashes complete the arrangement. In a modification, a globular hollow body 11 with an opening 12 at the front is made of celluloid or cellulose product white or light to simulate an eyeball. The iris is formed by a clear celluloid lens 14 at the back of which is a disc of paper &c. printed to represent the colour of the eye and pupil and pressed into the opening 14a in the lens. A hollow is filled with black paint 16 to give the appearance of depth. The eyelid is moulded of flesh-coloured plastic. Each element has holes 24 for mounting on a bridge piece mounted in lugs 27a projecting from a plate 27 fixed inside the forehead. A tongue 30 on the plate locates the eyes depthwise in their sockets 31. The pendulous weight 34. is received on lugs 33a on the central piece 33 of the bridge which piece limits the closing movement of the eyes.
