534,680. Glass manufacture. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co.). Oct. 7, 1939, No. 27441. Addition to 462,304. Drawings to Specification. [Class 56] An optical glass having a high combined refractive and dispersive index is made by fusing a batch containing the oxides of lanthanum, thorium, and boron together with tantalum oxide or tungsten oxide, or both, and either barium oxide, calcium oxide, strontium oxide, or magnesium oxide, or more than one of these last named oxides, but not containing more than 10 per cent. of silica. The batch may also contain a small proportion of sodium oxide, potassium oxide, lithium oxide, aluminium oxide, or beryllium oxide, or more than one of these oxides. A number of compositions are given in the Specification. For example, 28 per cent. of lanthanum oxide, 18 per cent. of tantalum oxide, 12 per cent. of thorium oxide, 12 per cent. of barium oxide, and 30 per cent. of boric oxide produce a glass which has a refractive index of 1.750 and a dispersive index of 47.
