Abstract
388,118. Glass manufacture. JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN., Otto-Schott-Strasse, Jena, Germany. Oct. 29, 1931, No. 29940. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1930. [Class 56.] Optical glass of refractive index greater than 1À60 and of low dispersion contains up to 20 per cent of titanium dioxide and at least 10 per cent of alkaline earth oxides (BeO, MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO), Mono- and trivalent and other bivalent oxides may also be present. The percentage of bi- and trivalent oxides preferably amounts to at least 35 per cent. According to examples, the glasses contain in addition to calcium and barium oxides, 2À5 to 11 per cent of TiO2, silica and boric oxide, oxides of zinc, lead and arsenic, and sometimes of sodium or aluminium. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 is not restricted to glasses containing alkaline earth oxides, and states that the titanium oxide may be wholly or in part replaced by oxides of thorium, hafnium, zirconium, germanium, and tin. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
