Abstract
408,993. Glass manufacture. JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & CEN., Otto-Schott- Strasse, Jena, Germany. July 22, 1932, No. 20671. Convention date, July 29, 1931. Drawings to Specification. [Class 56.] Titanium dioxide is added to optical glasses of high refractive index in order to reduce the tendency of the glass to become stained by humidity or by weak acids. The glasses concerned contain less than 55 per cent of silica, more than 25 per cent of bivalent oxides, and less than 10 per cent of alkaline-earth oxides. The amount of titanium oxide added is between 0.5 and 20 per cent, and preferably is not greater than 10 per cent. Examples of a number of glasses are given in the description. Specification 388,118 is referred to.
