Abstract

496,508. Glass manufacture. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen) July 12, 1937, No. 19287. [Class 56] Glass which has a high transmission for infra red radiation of wavelength 1-6Á is composed chiefly of (a) silica in a proportion between 5 and 15 per cent, (b) lime in a proportion preferably exceeding 49 per cent, and (c) one or more of the oxides of sodium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, strontium, barium, aluminium, titanium and lead, and is substantially free from boric or phosphoric oxide. One or more of the oxides of bismuth, zirconium, tin, cerium, uranium, chromium and manganese may be included to colour or cloud the glass. Compositions of a number of glasses are given in the Specification, one of which consists of 12 per cent of silica, 12 per cent of baryta, and 76 per cent of lime.
