Abstract
533,773. Batteries; binding-posts. BURNDEPT, Ltd., and RICHARDSON, R. P. July 4, 1939, Nos. 19446 and 22680. [Classes 38 (i) and 53] A battery unit is fitted with spring-grip terminals so placed that when two units are correctly assembled, a stiff wire connector can be inserted into the positive terminal of one unit and the negative terminal of the other, but as long as the units are correctly aligned the connector cannot be inserted into two positive or two negative terminals. The positive terminal 3 and negative terminal 4 each consist of a strip of metal having a central spring tongue which can grip an interconnecting wire 5 and hold it in a determined direction. The terminals are disposed obliquely so that, when units are placed adjacent each other, the terminal of the positive pole of one is aligned with that of the negative pole of the next so that the wire connector 5 can be passed through them. The terminals are asymmetrically placed relatively to the top of the unit so that if one unit is placed the wrong way round no connection is possible. A wander plug can be inserted in the terminal in either of the positions indicated at 14, 15. A cardboard partition 16, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), is placed between the two terminals on each unit to avoid accidental short-circuits.
