Abstract
533,480. Alkaloid ascorbates. HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO. AKT.-GES., F. Nov. 10, 1939, No. 29803. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1938. [Class 2 (iii)] Ascorbates of cinchona alkaloids are made by heating the alkaloids with esters of 2- ketogalonic acid in organic solvents. In examples the ascorbates of quinine, hydroquinine and quinidene are prepared from the methyl and ethyl esters. Isohexyl, propyl and ethyl alcohols are used as the solvents but amyl alcohol is also suitable. The products are crystallized by cooling or precipitated by ether. Hydroquinine ascorbate is freely soluble in water ; the solution may be stabilized against hydrolysis by adding a little free ascorbic acid. The aqueous solutions of the products may be used for injection.
