Abstract
533,421. Reels for hose pipes. HINTON, J. C. Nov. 13, 1939, No. 30000. [Class 99 (ii)] A portable winder for fire and like hose pipes comprises a base plate 10 carrying a drum having its body portion eccentric to its axis of rotation, so as to leave room at one side of the drum for the coupling-member or like fitting provided on the end of the pipe. Fig. 1 shows a drum comprising end flanges 28 connected by a body portion composed of two parallel plates 36, 38 arranged to one side of the axis 18 of the drum, apertures 54 being provided in the flanges at the other side of the axis for receiving pins on the coupling- member or like fitting. One of the flanges 28 may be detachable, being held in place by spring pins 44. The base plate 10 is adapted for attachment to hook members 76 on the vertical side of a lorry, and is retained therein by fastenings 78. The hose is smoothed by a presser member 24 pivoted at 22 and provided with a shoe adjustable laterally to take different sizes of hose. Cleaning-brushes 66, 68 may also be provided, the latter fixed to the presser member, and the former carried by an arm 70 pivoted at 72.
