Abstract

533,122. Rotary. engines. SERPAS, E. J. Oct. 11, 1939, No. 27650. [Class 110 (ii)] Pistons 28, 29, 30, 31 within a rotating casing 2 are caused to approach and recede by means of a crank-pin 74, on a stationary shaft 75, connecting-rod 83 and a .toggle pair 91, 96 which are pivoted to two rotors 45, 58 carrying the opposed pairs of pistons. The centre pin 85 of the toggle is guided in radial slots 87. Gases are admitted and exhausted by valves 139 and 175 which rotate with the casing and are operated through radial rock shafts having arms 214, 225 actuated by stationary cam surfaces on the part 237. A stationary distributer 250 contacts in turn with the plugs 41, 43 and the contactbreaker 265 is actuated by a push rod 254 when the head 255 of the latter is ridden over by the cam arms 214. A vane 272 turns the rod 254 in accordance with the flow of gas from the carburetter 116 and by means of the eccentric head 255 the ignition timing is varied. Lubricating oil is suppled from a reservor 273 through suitable ducts and a part of the system is connected to the closed spring pockets 191 of the valves to assist the flow.
