[Class 97 (i)] A meniscus photographic objective 11 used with a rear diaphragm 12 is rendered focusable for near objects by the provision between them of a positive member 13 at a fixed di tance frcm the objective 11 ar:d a negative member 14 at a fixed distance from the diaphragm, the components being carried by parts 17, 18 of a mount relatively movable so that the components 13, 14 are axially separable for focusing. The member 13 may be plano-convex and the member 14 may be plano-concave ; all curved surfaces may be concave towards the diaphragm, and the parts of the mount may be connected by a screw thread. Each of the components may be compound.
