Abstract
532,527. Knot-tying machines. SOC. ANON. DE FABRICATION DE TAPIS A POINTS NOUES SAFTAN. July 24, 1939. No. 21427. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1938. [Class 112] [Also in Group IX] In the making of carpets in looms, such as those described in Specifications 243,821, [Class 142 (ii)], and 433,042, [Group IX], wherein the pile yarns F to be knotted round warp threads are tied to the loops or ringlets E of needles D the used-up ends of yarn F are replaced by new lengths of yarn mechanically instead of by hand. A bar C carrying a series of needles D with the exhausted yarn F is mounted in a carriage S which is moved, stepby-step past the knot-removing and knot-tying device H. On the carriage S<SP>1</SP> are as many pegs S<SP>7</SP> as there are needles D. the device H comprises two shafts A, B for the untying and tying sections connected by a chain r<SP>3</SP> and driven from a pulley r<SP>4</SP> through a clutch of the Bliss type. These shafts carry cams which operate numerous rotating and sliding, grippers; cutters &c. After the knot of the exhausted yarn F has been removed from the ringlet E, the ringlet is threaded on a peg S' and the carriage moved to bring it opposite the tying device. Here the two sides of the ringlet are seized by grippers i' which on rotation form the ringlet into a double loop, Fig. 24, through which a gripper k' is passed to seize a new pile yarn F from a magazine n' and draw it through the ringlet loops which are then pushed over by jaws L<SP>1</SP> to complete, the knot shown in Fig. 7. The magazine n' is controlled by keys n<SP>28</SP> which are depressed in accordance with a design laid on the table S". The desired length of new yarn F is cut off by cutters m<SP>1</SP>.
