Abstract

532,505. Valves; fluid pressure servomotor-control systems. SIEMENS APPARATE UND MASCHINEN GES. Sept. 1, 1939, No. 25148. Convention date, Sept. 2, 1938. [Class 135] An electromagnetically operated valve has armature e<SP>2</SP> arranged to form a valve member which when the magnet is energized closes the ends of two conduits 8, 9. In the arrangement shown these two conduits lead to the ends of a servomotor cylinder 2 adapted to operate a control surface 1 of an aeroplane. The servomotor is normally controlled automatically by a valve 7 actuated by a member 4 acting through a floating lever 5. To permit direct manual operation by a lever 3 the magnet is de-energized by opening the switch 10 so permitting the valve to open and fluid to circulate freely between the two ends of the cylinders. Vent ports e<SP>5</SP>, e<SP>7</SP> are provided to permit movement of the armature. The conduits 8, 9 pass through the central part of the electromagnet core and are fitted at their ends with brass ferrules to provide valve seats. The upward movement of the armature is limited by a ring e<SP>4</SP> secured to the core.
