[Class 100 (iv)] In a date or like printing attachment for typewriters, type-wheels or loose types are mounted on a slide in connection with an actuating- spring, manually operated means being provided for retracting the slide into engagement with a catch, and for releasing the catch to permit forward movement of the slide for impression. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, dating-wheels A are mounted in a support B which can slide between plates C on the framework of the typewriter and is urged towards the platen D by a spring E. On depression of a finger-key F<SP>1</SP>, a catch F is released, the support B is propelled by the spring, and the dating-wheels effect impression. The spring is re-set by means of a hand-lever H in connection with cams H<SP>2</SP> which co-operate with abutments H<SP>3</SP> on the support. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 5, the dating- wheels A are mounted in a carrier M which is pivoted at M<SP>1</SP> to a slidable support B, and is guided by studs Q. When the carrier Q' of the upper stud is slidden forwards, the carrier M can be turned upwards to facilitate setting of the dating-wheels. The operating-spring E for the support B is mounted on a pillar P which receives a guide-pin P<SP>1</SP> on the support. The spring is re-set by depressing a bar N' carried by levers N having pins which engage slots in pivoted cams O co-operating with abutments on the support B. A latch F for the support abuts on a lever F<SP>2</SP> operated by a release-key F'. The bar N may be arranged to release the latch F as well as re-set the spring. For this purpose, one or both of the cams O are provided with a detent R, Fig. 10, having a lug R<SP>1</SP> which normally obstructs the latch F, and another lug R<SP>4</SP> cooperating with an incline. On slight depression of the bar N', the detent R is released from the latch, and impression is effected, whilst on further depression of the bar, the spring is reset. The dating-wheels may be inked by a movable pad, or a ribbon. Locking-devices.-To prevent blurring of the impression when the dating-wheels A, Fig. 1, are operated, the slidable support B is provided with a tooth B' which co-operates with a rack K to lock the carriage R, and co-operates also with a rocking bar L in connection with a pawl L<SP>2</SP> for locking the platen D. Ink-ribbon mechanism.-When the dating wheels A, Fig. 1, are operated, a pivoted ribbonguide J is raised, to move the ribbon into the printing line, by co-operation of inclines J<SP>2</SP> on the slidable support B with pins J<SP>1</SP> on the guide. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 5, the ribbonguide J is carried by pivoted arms J<SP>4</SP>, J<SP>5</SP> and is raised by co-operation of the arms J<SP>4</SP> with pins M<SP>2</SP> on the dating-wheel carrier M.
