531,447. Kinematograph apparatus. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. July 22, 1939, No. 21374. Convention date, July 25, 1938. [Class 97 (i)] Take-up means comprises a non-flexible ring or the like on to the interior of which the film is wound by a driven roller supporting and rotating the ring; the ring may have an aperture through which the film may be fed, so that, when a core is provided, the combination may be used as a pay-out spool. Fig. 1 shows a ring 12 having a slot 16 through which the film is passed to a clip 17, the ring and wound film 15 being supported &c. by a flanged roller 11 on a driven shaft 34. Figs. 5 and 6 show a ring 12 having flanges 20 ; during winding, this ring is supported by a flangeless roller. For pay-out use, the ring is associated with a core 23 on a shaft 33. A member 30 is secured to the core 23 by screws 32, and carries trunnions 29 engaging the forked ends of arms 24 pivoted on trunnions 26 carried by a ring 27. The ring 27 is rotatably adjustable on the member 30 to engage the ends 25 of the arms 24 with the interior of the coiled film, and may be held, when adjusted, by a set screw 31 forcing it against the core 23. The interior opening of the ring may, alternatively, be closed by a spring ring engaging the edges of the flanges. The film may carry a sound track only.
