Abstract

557,061. Film cameras and projectors. KODAK, Ltd. Dec. 31, 1942, No. 18611. Convention date, Feb. 13, 1942. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (i)] In a photographic film apparatus, such as a camera, or in a film projector, a manual winding member rotates a member engaging the film spool to unwind the film and pass it to a takeup chamber in which it coils upon itself, and at the same time tensions the spring of a motor which rotates the spool to re-wind the film on it after each exposure. In the camera shown, the film is first wound from the supply spool S into a take-up chamber 29 by the winding Handle 87, which through gearing rotates the driving-spindle 18 and also winds up a spring 35. Return of the film by the spring is prevented by a pawl 37 engaging the gear 34 and mounted on a spindle 41 which also carries an arm 39 adaptable to engage in slots 38 formed in the edge of the film and spaced at distances equal to the length of the film to be fed. The camera is provided with a shutter comprising a pair of arcuate oscillatable blades 7, 8 the latter of which carries a pivoted trip member 42 which, on the return of the shutter members after an exposure, trips the arm 39 and with it the pawl 37. The spring 35 then winds the film back on to the spool S until the mechanism is arrested by the arm 39 engaging the next slot in the film. The film is wider than the distance between the peripheries 22 of the spool flanges, and is caused to wind freely by being given a transverse curvature by a concave guide roller 24. The free end of the film is caused to coil upon itself in the chamber 29 by a leaf spring 30. An optical projection apparatus is described in which a film is similarly wound back on to the supply spool, a pivoted arm locking the mechanism when a pin carried by it engages a notch in the film and releasing it to feed the film when the pin is raised by a slide moved by a Bowden cable.
