Abstract

531,295. Television. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., and MYNALL, D. J. July 17, 1939, No. 20738. [Class 40 (iii)] The lighting of the auditorium of the screen surround of a television receiving apparatus is controlled in accordance with the average intensity or colour of the image on the screen by voltage derived from the D.C. component of the image signal, either directly from the signals applied to the control electrode of a cathode-ray tube or from an earlier tapping off with D.C. reinsertion. For colour television using separate projectors for each colour, each projector produces its separate control. As shown, the D.C. component of the image signals applied across a resistance R between the cathode K and a control electrode E of a cathode-ray tube T is fed through a resistance R2 to a condenser C connected to a voltage controlling unit D1 supplying a bank of lamps D2. The unit D1 may contain grid controlled gas-discharge devices controlling saturable reactors, and receives its supply by leads S. Specification 524,579 is referred to.
