Abstract

530,827. Evaporating liquids. PEEBLES, D. D., and MANNING, P. DE V. May 15, 1939, No. 14491. [Class 32] Refers to " vapour-mist" evaporators for milk, fruit juices &c. e.g. as described in Specification 448,539, and assists in the use, in one stage, of two or more tubular heaters discharging into separate compartments of a common receiver, the liquid from one heater being passed to the tubes of the next heater. As shown, the liquid from a pre-heater 13a, after treatment in a first effect 1 is passed to a second effect comprising two heaters 2a, 2b, liquid being passed by pump 33 and pipes 34 from the receiver 14 of the first effect to the heater 2a from which liquid is collected in one compartment of a receiver 22, divided by a baffle 24 and passed by pump 35 and pipe 36 to the second heater 2b from which liquid is collected in the other compartment of the receiver 22 and withdrawn by pumps 37. The heaters 2a, 2b are heated by vapour withdrawn from receiver 14 through a conduit 18. The crosssectional flow of the tubes 3a, 3b of the heaters 2a, 2b is less than that of the tubes of the heater 1.
