Abstract
158,569. Soc. E. Barbet et Fils et Cie. Jan. 27, 1920, [Convention date]. Separate heater and evaporator apparatus.-In an evaporating-apparatus of the kind described in Specification 22844/14 in which liquid is heated by circulation through a tubular heating-apparatus A and is evaporated in a separate chamber C from which the unevaporated liquid is returned to the heater, the formation of vapour in the heater is prevented by increasing the pressure therein by providing a restricted outlet d between the heater A and the vessel C and by inserting a pump B in the pipe which returns the liquid to the heater. The pressure is regulated by a valve P. A float regulator M serves to regulate the feed of liquid to the evaporator. To increase the transmission of heat in the heater A, the speed of flow of the liquid in the tubes is increased by the pump B, the tubes are placed closer together, and the steam is circulated repeatedly over the tubes as described in Specifications 114,838 and 117,070. In evaporating salt solution, the conical base of the chamber C is connected to a vessel adapted to receive the deposited crystals and to discharge them by admission of compressed air. In evaporating liquids such as milk, fruit juice, gelatine solution, &c. the heater A is heated by circulation of hot water which is heated in a second tubular heatexchanger heated by steam.
