Abstract
Trade liquors supplied through a pipe 2 are concentrated by passage through a series of evaporating units A .. D, arranged in multiple effect and provided with separators E .. H, the last unit being connected to a condenser J in which the final vapours are condensed and from which gases are removed to a vessel 13 and thence into the heater space of the evaporator D by means of a steam ejector V2. The liquid <PICT:0395957/III/1> separated in the separator E is partly returned through a pipe 5 to the same effect and in part transferred through a pipe 7 to the next effect while the vapours evolved are directed through a pipe 8 to the heating space of the next effect. The evaporator A is heated by a steam injector V3 which entrains through a pipe 17 gases from the last effect D and by an injector V1 which entrains part of the vapours passing off through the pipe 8. Condensate and gases from the evaporator A are discharged through steam trap 19 while condensate from the evaporators B, C, D is withdrawn by suction from the condenser J through air vessels 20, 21, and finally through a pipe 22 by a pump P1. The concentrated liquor is withdrawn from the separator H through a pipe 10 by a pump P and delivered to a tank 12. The process is applicable to the concentration of liquors such as milk, whey, gelatine, glue, lactic acid, fruit juices, vitamins, sugar, sulphite pulp, and colloidal liquors, e.g. blood.
