Abstract
530,797. Building blocks, slabs &c. GERNOW, A. June 19, 1939, No. 17884. [Classes 22 and 70] Light-weight fireproof building units such as bricks, tiles, panels, slabs &c. are formed from a mixture of a mineral of porous or cellular structure such as infusorical or diatomaceous earth, light finely-divided organic matter such as wood or straw-flour, sawdust, or peat fibre or dust, which may be treated to render it fireproof, or mineral fibres such as rock, slag or glass wool, together with a calcareous binding. agent such as slaked lime, Roman cement or hydraulic lime. Small proportions of Portland cement or gypsum may be added. The product is hardened by heating in steam at 170-180‹C. and then in air at 150-175‹C. so as to form calcium silicate. Reinforcements of steel rods, netting, or expanded metal may be incorporated in the panels, or slots may be left in the panels and steel rods cemented therein with Portland cement mortar.
