Abstract

530,205. Controlling change speed gearing. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. June 30, 1939, No. 19073. Convention date, July 11, 1938. [Class 80 (ii)] Shifter rails 107, 109 are provided with recesses 119, 121 engaged alternatively by projections 144, 145 from a slidable and rotatable selector shaft 127. The shaft 127 has recesses 133, 135 permitting movement of one of the rails, the other rail being locked by the unrecessed part of the shaft. The sliding or selective movement of shaft 127 is produced by a tilting movement of the hand-lever 23, Fig. 1, through axial movement of the shaft 21, tilting of the bell-crank lever 73 and the flexible cable 81. Rotatable or gear-engaging movement of shaft 127 follows an angular movement of the hand-lever 23 and shaft 21 which is connected by linkage 52, 155 to the hollow end of the shaft 127.
