530,023. Drawing fibres; twist tubes; discharging electricity from fibres. SOC. ALSACIENNE DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES., and TAINE, R. June 14, 1939, No. 17413. Convention date, June 28, 1938. [Classes 120 (i) and 120 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] The sliver, roving or the like in a spinning or papering machine is condensed and consolidated by passing through a guide arranged between the rollers of the drawing head, the guide comprising a helically formed piece of electrically-conducting material having a passage along its axis with the section of the material concave adjacent the passage; the guide is grounded or provided with means for neutralizing charges of static electricity collected by the guide when in use. As shown in Fig. I the guide a is formed by helically twisting a metal strip of curved section so that the concavity is towards the passage for the sliver or the like b metallic supports c, d, electrically ground the guide and as shown the passage may be constricted at one end. A guide may be provided between the rear and intermediate rollers and between the front and intermediate rollers and these guides may be given helices of opposite hand or a single guide may be formed of two parts of opposite hand. The guide may be used in the driving head having a porcupine roller, gillbars, rubber leathers, or elastic rollers.
