529,776. Sound insulation. HODGE, J. H. May 23, 1939, No. 15262. [Class 64 (ii)] A sound absorbing device for buildings comprises a panel a of fibrous plaster, glass, wood, plastic material, or metal having parallel vertical ribs b of triangular cross sections and a central bar c. The panel is secured to a wooden frame d mounted on the wall of the building. Sound passing into the panel is trapped in the space f which may contain a perforated or indented sheet of sound absorbent material, such as asbestos or felt. The sheet may be spaced from the wall e and from the panel a. In a modification, the ribs b may be curved or inclined in the direction of the impinging sound waves. The panel may be decorated or ornamented by painting or spraying. The ribs b may be of arcuate or circular shape, or may conform to any desired design.
