Abstract

529,717. Burning or heat treatment of solid materials or heating fluid media. ORRMELL, E. A. I. April 20, 1939, No. 11964. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 22, 1940]. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] A furnace for burning or' heat treating solid materials utilizing a vibratory grate or hearth along which the material is fed and including pipes through which fluid temperature regulating medium is passed has a vibration producing device which is resiliently supported. Fig. 1 shows a boiler furnace having the grate formed of pipes 1 connected to headers 2, 3 communicating with the upper and lower drums of the boiler. The pipes are resiliently supported on springs or on the ashpan 7 which is supported as shown on springs 4, 5. Vibration of the grate is produced by apparatus 6 which is resiliently supported. In a modification the grate is formed of U-shape pipes which are connected at their ends to superposed headers at the rear end of the grate. Fig. 3 shows a furnace for roasting ores such as pyrites ores which are fed by a conveyer 41 on to superposed hearths formed of water tubes 44 connected to upper and lower headers 45, 46. The headers are resiliently mounted on springs and vibration is transmitted to the hearths by a vibrator 52 also supported on springs. Air is supplied to the furnace through an aperture 54 and pipes 56.
