Abstract
528,043. Billet-piercing. WESTBROOKE, W. G. F., and OMES (CONTINENTAL), Ltd. March 21, 1939, No. 8975. [Class 83 (iv)] Forging-dies. Two-part billet piercing dies such as are described in Specification 408,179 have the carrier member, that supports the billet when the die sections are in open position, made in the form of spaced elements received in recesses on the mating die, whereby a more durable construction is obtained. The operative surfaces of the die may be formed in liners 111, 112, retained in position by overlapping plates 31, 32 let into the die bodies and retained by screws 33. The liner 112 is formed with a ledge 18 having spaced supporting elements 23 secured by screws and received in recesses 24 in the liner 111 the ledge 18 centring a recess 19. The liner 111 may be provided with a ledge 20 co-operating with a recess 21 in the liner 112 so that after the parts in the vicinity of the recesses 24 become worn the liners may be reversed and element 23 fitted to the ledge 20. In a modification the elements 23 are semi-cylindrical and slightly tapered.
