Abstract
528,011. Rotary meters and metering pumps. KNAPP, R. T. April 26, 1939, No. 12492. [Class 110 (ii)] Axially sliding valve type.-In meters and pumps as described in Specifications 452,829 and 490,588, in which the vanes 8 are pressed outwards by springs interposed between the vanes and pieces 42 which bear upon the bottoms of the slots carrying the vanes, the floors of these slots are adjustable radially so as to vary the capacity of the spaces in the slots below the radial level of the effective working chambers and thereby to vary the volumetric capacity of the meter. The floors of the slots may be provided by wedge-shaped pieces 66, Fig. 8, which are adjustable radially by the axial movement of a cone 67. Or, the pieces may taper from the centre towards both ends and be adjusted by two opposed cones which are approached and separated by means of a right and left hand threaded screw. Or, two similar cones on one member may adjust the floor pieces through intermediary pin struts. Or, the floor pieces may engage a spiral threaded member after the manner of a universal chuck. In the form shown in Fig. 14, the adjustable floor is represented solely by the end surface of a screwed pin 48. The adjustable floor may be provided for one or more of the several vanes of a meter.
